On June 14 in Kigali, Rwanda, Dr. Barry Hughes will present a keynote address at the 7th Africa Agriculture Science Week and Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA). This pre-plenary meeting seeks to develop an “African foresight capacity” to help manifest the sustainable-agriculture goals of the CAADP. Oversight agencies such as FARA hope to better advise agriculture sector stakeholders on anticipated future changes and scenarios affecting productivity, growth, and food security.
This meeting is an initial step in establishing an African Virtual Foresight Academy to consider predictive approaches for concerted action to ensure viable agricultural futures. Dr. Hughes, along with researchers and practitioners from other international agencies, has been invited to share his expertise in futures thinking for development.
