Pardee Director Jonathan Moyer participated in the EU-Africa Strategic Dialogue, a workshop hosted by the European Union Institute for Security Studies and the Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria from June 29-30.

Pardee Director Jonathan Moyer and Research Affiliate Lily Welborn both attended an Enhancing Africa’s Response to Transnational Organized Crime (ENACT) workshop in Cape Town from July 3-6. The goal of ENACT to is collect and organize data on international crime to better understand how to stop it.

Our director, Jonathan D Moyer, joined our partners at the Institute for Security Studies in Maputo on June 28, 2017, as they launched our latest co-authored report, "Prospects and Challenges: Mozambique’s Growth and Human Development Outlook to 2040." The report was prepared for Irish Aid, and follows from a broader regional report on Southern African development trends that we produced for US

On April 21, 2017, Frederick S. Pardee Center, in collaboration with our partners at the Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria, South Africa, released a new report outlining key trends in the development of Ethiopia.

The Pardee Center has published an exploratory report on the potential for modeling the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on different areas of human development. AI refers to the use of technology to fulfill jobs traditionally done by humans. Pardee is particularly interested in evaluating the potentially dramatic effects of AI on international development.

Our team was invited to participate in the second authors meeting of the UN Environmental Programme's (UNEP) sixth Global Environmental Outlook report in Bangkok, Thailand from May 22-26. The goal of GEO-6 is to understand the current state and trends of the environment, and to try to inform the international community on the policies needed to meet environmental objectives.

Our founder and senior scientist, Barry Hughes, traveled to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in Seattle for a scenarios workshop on May 17. The workshop participants met to discuss key issues in developing future scenarios for the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) project, hosted at the IHME.

Research Associate David Bohl spent three days (April 3-5) in Maputo, Mozambique, alongside our partners at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), to meet with representatives from Irish Aid. While in Mozambique, he and other researchers from the ISS also with met with USAID, the Canadian Embassy, and the Mozambique Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Pardee Center director Jonathan Moyer and research associate Andrew Scott spent four days (April 4 to April 7, 2017) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia conducting an interactive training session on International Futures (IFs) for members of the National Planning Commission, the Ethiopian National Bank, local customs and immigration officials, as well as several private sector representatives.

On March 14, Research System Developer Steve Hedden and Lead System Developer José Solórzano led a workshop at the UN Data Innovation Lab in Nairobi. Forty-seven development practitioners from UN agencies including UNDP, UNDP, WFP, FAO and UNICEF participated in a hands-on exploration of the International Futures (IFs) integrated assessment model.
